There are about 100 light aircraft in the US which have gone missing since 1962. Lew became involved in looking for some of these missing planes when he joined the search for fellow adventurer Steve Fossett, whose plane went missing in 2007. Steve and Lew were both members of The Explorers Club, founded in 1904.
